10 Times People Died Inside During Awkward Interviews
5. Blur With Nardwuar
British rock band Blur's 2003 interview with Nardwuar for Canada's MuchMusic is one of music media's most cringe-worthy moments.
It's not totally clear if the band was familiar with the interviewer's cartoonish persona, because the entire thing is just a disaster from start to finish.
Blur drummer Dave Rowntree starts it off by knocking Nardwuar's notes from his hands and then continues to mock him while attempting to physically intimidate him. Singer Damon Albarn and bassist Alex James don't do much to stop what looks like a classic scene of schoolyard bullying. Blur guitarist Graham Coxon comes off as a saint for not being there.
Rowntree continues to get right up in the interviewer's face and even knocks his hat off while the others laugh. He eventually pushes Nardwuar over before leaving the room. The interviewer, to his credit, continues on and asks James and Albarn: "What gives him that fire in his belly?"
Later, Rowntree, would claim that it was cocaine that gave him that fire. Then in 2011, after becoming a politician, he publicly apologised for the incident, and Nardwuar accepted via Twitter.
Cocaine's a hell of a drug.
