10 Times Rock Bands Trolled You

4. Metallica - Lulu

Keeping things with The Velvet Underground, we have the final full-length studio record featuring Lou Reed before his death in 2013.

Metallica’s Lulu is an avant-garde metal album often regarded as one of the worst albums of all time. Metallica have made incredible albums before and after this 2011 release, so there is suspicion that this outlier could’ve have been one massive troll after all.

Kirk Hammett and frontman James Hetfield allegedly cried when they were recording, but sadly fans were left wailing for more negative reasons. Lulu sounds like Metallica demos that never should have been made for the human ear.

Famous musicians may have been in on the act for a Lulu love-in too, as David Bowie claimed Lulu was among Reed's best work.

In 2018, Metallica teased fans thoughts by cheekily tweeting “Everyone’s favorite album “Lulu” was released #OnThisDay in 2011. Dare we ask what your favorite song on the album is? ?”. Thankfully, the album has been lost to time as it is absent from streaming services in 2019.
