10 Times Rock Musicians Appeared On Other Artists' Albums
1. David Bowie - Transformer (Lou Reed)
It would be a waste of word count to express just how influential David Bowie's solo career was. But, as well as his vast back catalogue of out of this world albums, Bowie was also extremely monumental in launching a number of other well known acts into stardom.
Notably, Bowie helped Iggy Pop redefine his career after his exciting but chaotic time with The Stoogies, writing several tracks for him and supporting his friend during Pop's brief stint in a mental institution.
But Bowie also had a hand in shaping Lou Reed's iconic second album Transformer in 1972. Throughout his life, Bowie referenced Reed's earlier work with The Velvet Underground for influencing his own creative output during his Ziggy Stardust era, so it made sense for Bowie to want to return the favour.
Not only did he co-produce the record with Mick Ronson, but he performed a variety of instruments on a number of tracks, as well as contributing backing vocals to Walk On The Wild Side.
With the king of glam rock having such a major part to play on this record, it's no surprise Transformer is considered one of most defining and influential records of the genre.
