10 Totally Cheesy Songs (That Are Still Awesome)

7. Tim Capello - I Still Believe

Just look at the absolute state of Tim Capello, straddling the stage at a Santa Clara funfair in the Lost Boys.

This is surely a bizarre mutation of the Mandela Effect. You probably remember watching the Lost Boys, in the early '90s, on a VHS rented from the video store. But Capello looks so '80s that you must have dreamt up that memory after watching some parody deep into a stoned night. It is simply too '80s to be real because it is everything about the '80s: Capello has the most rippled, bronzed '80s body, he has the most long, '80s hair, and he is playing the second-most '80s musical instrument. He is essentially a Hulk Hogan/Michael Bolton hybrid wailing on a sax in front of a throng of motorcycle riding mall kids, at night, when kids in those movies were essentially nocturnal.

The song somehow conspires to be even more cheesier than the performance of it.

That sax f*cks, and it f*cks hard with an aerobicised thrust, joined in the mix by twinkling synths and Capello's earnest cries of OH AND I STILL BELIEVE!, when perseverance was still a thing and detached, ironic, 48/14 nihilism was not.

Ludicrously dramatic, this song is nonetheless an air-punching tour de force, the essence of which is so powerful that pop culture continues to suck the blood from it 30 years later.
