4. Told Slant
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqezX0UVQkE Told Slant is the bedroom recording project of Brooklyn-based musician Felix Walworth. Their trembling vocals echo the sentiments of their alienated, confessional lyrics. The defeatist attitudes present on much of their songs often come through a dark stream-of-consciousness rather than a rapid-fire wit. These songs are consumed by crises. The music's power comes through an acknowledgement of the aforementioned crises. Walworth sees their discomfort and alienation and instead of ignoring it or analyzing decides to wallow in it. Their singing is as far out of your face as someone's vocals could get. But in songs such as "Parking Lots," the fight comes through. Songs bearing dismal themes become so overwhelmed with emotion that their problems are surmounted and a narrative completion is reached. Something about Told Slant's music is breathtakingly cinematic and deserves your attention. Recommended album: Still Water
