Their dreamy, psychedelic sound is not a common one amongst 90s alternative rock bands, but it certainly works for them, thanks in large part to lead singer Hope Sandoval's incredible voice. They're mostly known for their song Fade Into You, which received a decent amount of airplay on MTV in the early 90s. The group were never destined to make it big, however, due to Sandoval's staggeringly shy stage presence: instead of engaging with the audience, she would barely even acknowledge and requested a very dim spotlight so as not to be well seen. Despite having a withdrawn front woman, Mazzy Star's music speaks for themselves.
