10 Underrated Albums By Huge Bands
8. Chinese Democracy - Guns N' Roses (2008)
Okay, look we know, this isn't the Guns N' Roses we all loved. Duff Mckagan wasn't pumping away on the bass; Matt Sorum wasn't pounding the drums to hell, and Slash's Les Paul might as well have been in China... But, if you can put aside the excessive personal list, the outrageous production time and the $13 million budget, this is an album to be enjoyed, if you know how...
The title track, was straight fire and felt like Guns entering the 21st Century. It had many similarities to the stuff Velvet Revolver were doing at the time... , with an exciting guitar riff and Axl giving an explosive performance.
We will conveniently ignore the sh*t show that was Shackler's Revenge, and jump straight to, If The World. It truly has a curious allure, sounding something like a Bond theme, and a 2000s pop ballad. And let's not ignore, Scrapped, and, Raid N' The Bedouins, both were industrial metal numbers laced with '80s attitude - what's not to like?
If you can appreciate that this album was recorded over a period of 10 years, it becomes a fascinating study of the developing musical trends over that era.
