10 Underrated Albums By Huge Bands

6. Jazz - Queen (1978)

Queens seventh studio album polarised critics and fans alike when it was released. It's one of the most eclectic records the band ever made and certainly has some strange moments. Despite that, there are a number of highly enjoyable Queen classics laced throughout.

The opening track Mustapha, kicked things off to an interesting start. Freddie Mercury expelled his lyrics in a multitude of languages as Brian May moved around on the fret board, in a technically interesting, but musically boring fashion. It felt like a half arsed attempt to capture the same magic of Bohemian Rhapsody. Things get better with the second number, however. Fat Bottom Girls, is one of Queens all time greats. We also got treated to the unapologetically camp and ever enjoyable, Bicycle Race - which took on the signature Queen trope of flicking from tone and style throughout one song. Let Me Entertain You and Dead On Time, included Brian May exhibiting some of his heavier riff work.

This is an album that hears Queen having fun, it's an exercise in doing things because it feels good. And let's not forget this record included, Don't Stop Me Now, I challenge you to name a more joyous song...
