10 Underrated Hard Rock Bands Of The 70's
1. Cheap Trick
Whenever your typical hard rock fan brings up the great American rock bands, Cheap Trick always seems to get swept to the side. Sure, they did have some great rock smashes like "Dream Police" and "Surrender," but was there anything more to this band than just a handful of hits?
One quick look at this band's back catalog shows the gold mine of rock gems they have created. With the pop scene bogged down with new wave and disco, Cheap Trick came out like a hurricane as they played to their audience like rabid dogs that have just been let loose. The band's combination of roaring guitars and hooky choruses was pivotal in creating the genre of power pop. It wasn't until the live record At Budokan came out that the band first started to gain attention from the mainstream. While the band was riding high, success continued to pass them by with every subsequent record.
The band has not been forgotten though. Throughout later decades, the band has gotten support from later rock gods from the members of Pearl Jam to Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day. Even though most hard rock fans found their jams elsewhere, Cheap Trick are known as "The American Beatles" for a damn good reason.
