10 Underrated Hard Rock Bands Of The 70's

7. Runaways

Anyone who watched Guardians of the Galaxy a few years back always remembers that badass song "Cherry Bomb" that plays when the group starts getting ready for battle. What people don't realize is just how much great material was available in this throwback punk outfit.

Formed in Los Angeles in the mid 70's, the Runaways were one of the greatest collectives in the punk rock scene. Fronted by future rock legend Joan Jett, the band made a name for themselves as mainstays on the scene with a sound that was like if the Ramones had the same energy of a band like AC/DC. Being an all-female collective, the group were also pioneering the riot grrrl genre long before bands like Bikini Kill and Hole were coming to fruition.

Though the band never had stellar sales as a whole, the members each found success outside of the band, with Jett going on to be one of the queens of punk and guitarist Lita Ford becoming one of the toughest girls on the 80's metal scene. While the Runaways may be looked at as a stepping stone for major artists, don't let that dissuade you from the band's impressive punk rock fury.
