10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The 2000s

5. Easy Target - Blink-182

For any dyed-in-the-wool pop punk fans, the self-titled Blink-182 album can be a pretty weird listen at first. From one track to the next, these original pop punk brats responsible for songs like the Rock Show and First Date were writing songs about more introspective topics and using more atmospheric instruments. This wasn't the Blink we got to know...it was about to get even better.

Across most of the self-titled record, you start to see these disparate influences leading Blink into more harsher territory, almost into full-blown alternative rock in places. Although some songs like Feeling This bring the thunder in equal measure, nothing hits as hard as Easy Target, featuring a rapid fire back and forth by both Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge whenever they step up to the mic. Forget the pop connotations...this is just a balls to the wall punk song as the tone shifts to paranoia, with Hoppus and DeLonge feeling trapped in this relationship.

Going so far as namecheck their local heroes Social Distortion with the mommy's little monster reference, the breakdown at the end results in some of the most pained screams from DeLonge before fading into the next track All of This shortly after. Even though this record would signal the end of this version of Blink, it was one hell of a ride to the finish.
