10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '70s
8. I Stole Your Love - KISS
As the '70s turned a corner, KISS had gone from one of the jokes of the music industry to the top of the rock heap. After the amazing success of their live album Alive!, these make-up clad badasses from New York turned in some of the most hard-hitting records of their career on Destroyer and Rock and Roll Over. Though Love Gun marks the endcap on most of the group's classic material, the heaviest part is actually not the title track.
Kicking things off with a barnburner, I Stole Your Love has got to be one of the most ferocious riffs to come from Paul Stanley's amplifier. Taking inspiration from Deep Purple's return to form on Burn, this entire song almost seems like a punk tune with its manic tempo, as the rest of the group give their all in their attempts to match Stanley's intensity throughout.
This is also a showcase for one of Ace Frehley's most underrated solos, as he moves across the fretboard with reckless abandon, almost like his guitar is some out of control beast that he is trying to keep under control. Though this has remained a staple in KISS's setlist through the years, there's no good reason why fans are subjected to some of the more milquetoast ballads instead of this heavy metal stomper track.
