10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '90s

5. Stacked Actors - Foo Fighters

By the end of the '90s, Dave Grohl had come a long way from being the former drummer of the DC hardcore punk band Scream. After joining Nirvana and conquering the rock world, Grohl had been able to carve out a new path for himself after Kurt Cobain's death with Foo Fighters. Even though the songs were a bit more mellow than his roots, the start of the band's third album showed Grohl embracing his heavy metal dreams once again.

The Foos' had always been known for the intense delivery of their songs, but "Stacked Actors" brings it to a totally different level, with a dropped tuning and manic vocal delivery that wouldn't feel to out of place on an extreme metal release. The lyrics are also some of Grohl's angriest, as he rails against celebrity culture that has run rampant in the industry, with big names turning into divas.

Recorded in Dave Grohl's basement in just a few weeks, this song remains one of the most brutal in the band's catalog, which they still play live in concert from time to time. It's not exactly going to shine brighter than something like "The Pretender," but if you find yourself unable to get into the band's brighter songs, this is a solid slice of heavy rock that is well worth your time.
