10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '90s

6. Warped - Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers truly seemed to be down for the count after the departure of John Frusciante in the mid '90s. Though Frusciante hadn't been a key member throughout the band's run, his touch on guitar had given the band their biggest successes yet on songs like "Give It Away" and "Under the Bridge." The band's followup One Hot Minute was bound to be maimed by the public, but "Warped" showed just how underrated this album really was.

The song starts off a bit weird right out of the gate with some strange sound effects, but once the beat drops and the punishing riff from Dave Navarro comes screaming in, it was clear that the band could survive without Frusciante just fine. Combined with Anthony Kiedis' snide vocal delivery, the entire song feels like a mix of the band's funk rock sound blended perfectly with punk, even down to the chorus where the band opens the entire track up further.

"Warped" ended up showing a lot of promise, but the return of Frusciante one album later on Californication led many people to just forget about the band's previous effort. "My Friends" and "Aeroplane" might get a little more attention from this record, but if you want to tear your room to shreds, throw on "Warped" and drop all your inhibitions.
