10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '90s
3. Touch Me I'm Sick - Mudhoney
It was almost impossible to be a grunge band in the '90s and not receive some sort of acclaim. Even if you weren't associated with the genre, bands from Seattle were still able to hit it big because of their relationships with the more popular acts of the day. Though Mudhoney never rose to the heights of someone like Nirvana, they were probably one of the truest grunge bands of the entire scene.
Coming right before everything took over in the early '90s, the band were codifying the grunge sound into what it would later become, from the punkish aggression to the sludgy sounds of the guitars and vocals. While the band never had what we would think of as hits, "Touch Me I'm Sick" remains their definitive song. The attitude of alt-rock is definitely there, but there is also a wild sense of abandon throughout, almost as if the song could fly off the rails or fall apart at any given moment.
Even if Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder took these sounds to the top of the charts, this shows the next wave of alternative rockduring its birthing stage. Grunge would eventually overpower everything in its path, but songs like this reminds you why they were so powerful in the first place.
