10 Underrated Linkin Park Songs

4. Wretches and Kings - A Thousand Suns

The thesis statement behind most of A Thousand Suns is man's tendency towards nuclear fallout. Since most of the nuclear attacks are now based in technology, all the bigwigs need is a push of a button to bring about nuclear Armageddon. And when you give the mic to Linkin Park, they're going to take these people to task for all the heinous things they've done.

Being one of the most electronic leaning songs on the record, Wretches and Kings feels like you're trapped inside of a simulation, with Mika Shinoda calling to you from the other side. This isn't a call of hope though...it's a call to rise up against those who have stepped on you. Once Chester's glitchy chorus comes in, it almost feels like these guys are wise sages from the future. They've seen how the world managed to tear itself to shreds, and are looking to cut things off at the source before things spiral too far out of control.

Oddly enough, this is also the kind of song that works equally well as a dance track, with Joe Hahn going off behind the board and Chester getting more and more angry as the track plays out. Linkin Park may have always had a man vs machine ethic, but the machine isn't to blame. You need to take down the people who are making them, even if it means putting your body on the gears.
