10 Underrated Metal Albums Of The 1990s

5. Motley Crue - Motley Crue

If there was any band who were going to get left by the wayside at the end of the 80's, many seemed to place their bets on Motley Crue. The band were kings of the Sunset Strip with some of the sleaziest rock and roll to come out of the glam movement. How was that kind of music going to fare in the era of flannel shirts and baggy pants?

The Crue themselves were having their fair share of problems at this point as well, with Vince Neil leaving the band after a personal falling out with the band members. With new singer John Corabi out front, the band released their self-titled record in 1994, which ended up being one of the gnarliest things they had ever made.

Instead of the typical party rock the band were known for, these songs were much more moody and had a definitive bite to them, which made for some great moments like on "Hooligan's Holiday." However, the album's failure to set the world on fire led to the band ditching this new lineup and making amends with Vince Neil. This album may feel like a stop gap in between two eras of the Crue's career, but one can only speculate what another album would sound like with Corabi out front.
