10 Underrated Musicians In Legendary Bands

4. Tre Cool - Green Day

If you're part of a rock and roll trio, you have a lot more responsibility that you might think when you're first starting out. Considering there's only three of you onstage, each member has to hold up their end more or less equally so that the rest of the music doesn't crumble in on itself. Though Green Day were on the cusp of something brilliant with Billie Joe Armstrong's songwriting, it didn't fully click into place until Tre Cool got behind the kit.

Although Tre still fits in with the more aggressive punk drummers of his time, he is a lot more versatile than you might think, taking bits and pieces from every genre he knows and flipping them on their head for the sake of the song. Just one listen to an album like Nimrod will tell you everything you need to know, as he sprinkles in ska beats, lounge music rhythms, and even your typical pop punk style together into a beautiful cacophony of sound.

Since Billie Joe already has the star power covered for the group, Tre has also made himself stick out through his unique sense of humor, having the same clown-ish type of persona he had when he was a kid. While every band is trying to copy the John Bonham drum sound, it's nice to have a guy who went to the Keith Moon school of drumming.
