10 Unusual 1970s Lead Singers

4. Tim Finn, Split Enz (Est. 1972)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTHVDOMf3Jc Tim Finn was like a hokey animatronic dummy that had come alive. You€™re in for an off-putting treat if you€™ve never seen the seventies music videos of New Zealand group Split Enz (€œBold as Brass,€ €œMy Mistake,€ and €œLovey Dovey€ will get you through the day). Finn was only the most visible weirdo in a whole band of costumed clown/musicians, each with their own individual tics. The theatrical strangeness was very much all-for-one and one-for-all. For a time, Tim Finn was rock€™s most watchable lead singer. In performance he seemed like a silent film character, all melodramatic gestures in fast-motion. His face always seemed to be wriggling a bee off its nose. His dance moves were those of a deranged old person. Compared to the other more alienating vibes on this list, Finn kept up a sense of fun and innocence. Plus he had a great soaring voice, and did a solid impression of a trumpet.
