10 Utterly Bizarre Album Titles (And What They Really Mean)

7. Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band €“ Trout Mask Replica

With a moniker like Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, it's fairly unsurprising that the group's albums might have strange names too. Captain Beefheart was an American musician who released thirteen studio albums with the Magic Band and was known for constructing elaborate myths about his life. Trout Mask Replica, released in 1969, is widely regarded as the band's magnum opus, and is considered one of the most influential rock albums ever made (and by many to be one of the greatest albums of all time). Like Weasels Ripped My Flesh, the bizarre title was chosen as a fitting representation of the album's sound, which consists of an eclectic mix, like Beefheart singing and reciting poetry over punk, avant-garde, blues rock and free jazz inspired instrumentation.
