4. Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana

Like Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy," the video for grunge legends Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" is a trippy, delirious fever dream fantasy including foetuses, the Klu Klux Klan and the crucifixion of a Santa Claus/Jesus type figure. To call it odd would be something of an understatement, but it was the trippy content that upset people when the song was first released, no matter how stylised and beautiful the video remains now. It is the perfect refrain for the haunting tones of the song, but the apparently needless provocation of some of the symbolism used is still a little jarring - particularly the tree of foetuses and the obese angel with her skin apparently flayed off. Not exactly for the faint-hearted.
