4. The Black Album World Tour: Three Years On The Road
In the fall of 1991, on the heels of the release of their self-titled "Black Album," Metallica hit the road for the Wherever We May Roam tour; a run that would go on to span the entire globe and have them play well over 300 shows in the process. The songs performed covered the bands entire career, and included a number of tracks from the new album as well. The shows from San Diego in 1992 and Mexico City in 1993 were filmed for a box set release to document the gruelling tour that spanned over three epic years. http://youtu.be/LwokrBPL4_Q The global tour for The Black Album cemented Metallica's legacy as rock's most hard-working and self-sufficient act. The run included stops at the Monsters of Rock festival in Moscow, Russia, the Woodstock festival from 1994 in New York, and a brief run of huge stadium-only shows with co-headliners Guns N Roses as well as stops that covered every continent on the planet, except for Antarctica (which they actually only covered last year). With their dedication to putting on a show for nearly every fan on the face of the Earth, Metallica had changed what it had meant for rock acts to go on tour, and they set a new, live performance standard for which no other band has yet to eclipse.
