10 Weirdest Cover Songs In Rock Music History
1. Stayin Alive - Ozzy Osbourne
It's fair to say that Ozzy has softened up a little bit as the years have gone on. Since this is the man who's responsible for being the bumbling father in the Osbournes TV show for MTV, it doesn't really make sense for him to bill himself as the Prince of Darkness next to his kids. Ozzy definitely has a softer side, but even hardcore metal fans might not have been willing to go into disco territory just yet.
Bringing in an all star cast of musicians behind him, Ozzy actually decided that it would be fun to take on the Bee Gees' classic track Stayin Alive, which makes about as much sense as Pavarotti trying to sing a Bob Dylan song. It does exist though, and Ozzy actually pulls it off a lot better than you'd expect. Keep in mind, his signature vocals haven't changed, but the instrumentation does give him a lot more to work with than what the original disco classic had going for it.
There are even some parts of the backing band that add some nice fire to the track, like Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt giving us hints of the early days of Ozzy and Steve Lukather keeping the groove tight underneath it all. If there's any guest star here that actually makes sense though, it would have to be Dweezil Zappa. Because only someone with the last name Zappa would be willing to make something this insane and actually win over some metal fans in the process.
