10 Weirdest Rock Songs Ever Made
4. She Looks Like Fun - Arctic Monkeys
Even after having a few years in the public consciousness, it feels like the Arctic Monkeys fanbase still doesn't know what to do about Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. Compared to the straightforward rock and roll of their early days and their flirtations with stoner rock later down the line, this lounge style approach to songwriting wasn't necessarily something we were all dying to hear. That being said, we at least got something interesting to come out of She Looks Like Fun.
Being a much darker version of the lounge vibe, the entire song feels like its plodding along from the minute it starts, almost like the entire track is slowing down every single time you listen to it. Though the Monkeys have been known to get a bit spacey, it starts to get somewhat hilarious when Alex Turner decides to belt out the chorus in his lower register, which feels like something out of an old school horror movie.
Instead of the ominous presence he may have wanted to co-opt here, it just comes off like Turner wanted to try on his imitation of Christian Bale's Batman voice and failed miserably. As much as something like this would have been fodder for one of the worst rock tracks imaginable, the off-kilter swagger of She Looks Like Fun ends up coming back around to endearing territory really quick.
