10 Weirdest Rock Songs Ever Made

5. Alabama Song - The Doors

Even in a decade as strange as the '60s, The Doors definitely had their unique brand of psychedelia cut out for them. Being one part hippy, another part slam poetry, and just a touch of hard rock, this eclectic ensemble from Los Angeles brought us some of the most forward-looking rock and roll ever conceived. Granted, when you're trying to pave the way for the future, it sometimes helps to look back to the past.

During the recording sessions for what would become their debut album, pianist Ray Manzarak brought an opera by Brecht and Vile into the studio to show the other band members. While the German oompah style of the tune didn't really mesh with the psychedelic rock of the time, the tale about traveling to the next whisky bar struck a chord with Morrison, who insisted they work up an arrangement for the tune.

What came out turned into the warped carnival from Hell, as each band member plays off a strange waltz rhythm to suit the words. As much as something like this could have been a joke, Alabama Song's charm comes through with the way each band member sells the song. These guys might not be up to any good, but there sure to get some kicks along the way regardless.
