10 Weirdest Songs By Legendary Artists

8. Mother - The Police

By the time the Police got to recording the songs on Synchronicity, things were slowly starting to unravel in the group. For all the professionalism that they brought to the studio and to the stage, creative tensions were starting to reach an all time high, and Sting's completed songs like Every Breath You Take signaled the kind of blockbuster potential that he already had as a solo entity. The other guys can't be forgotten in the band either, and once you hear what Andy Summers was working with on Mother, you will probably never forget it for the rest of your life.

Coming right before some of the classics on the record like King of Pain or Wrapped Around Your Finger, this whole song is practically a chaotic fever dream set to music, where Andy talks about the abusive relationship that he had at the hands of his mother. While there have been many great songs that were born out of childhood trauma, this track just makes you feel uncomfortable from the moment it starts, with Andy speaking in this horrified accent, almost like he's some deranged individual on the street that's trying to get anyone to listen to his story.

Writing about your mother's controlling issues is one thing, but it gets even worse as it goes on too, as Andy talks about every single woman that he goes out with getting compared to his mother in his own mind. There's no denying that Andy did have some issues to unpack, but you might want to save them for a therapist instead of taking up space on the album.
