10 Worst Band Breakups Of All Time
1. Eagles
It's strange to think that one of the biggest breakups in rock history actually came for one of its most easy going bands. On the surface, the Eagles are one of the most care-free groups in the world, with songs that have become the soundtrack of the '70s for many. The songs may still hold up as classics, but there was a lot of pent-up aggression hidden beneath the melodies.
The first element of dysfunction came when guitarist Don Felder demanded to sing a song on the band's Hotel California album. Though the band eventually let Felder sing the track "Victim of Love," they eventually rerecorded the song with Don Henley after Felder left the studio. Things took an even darker turn when the band went on tour, with bassist Randy Meisner's uneasiness forcing the band to kick him out.
Wanting to keep the momentum going, the band used cocaine to fuel their final album the Long Run, whose tour ended at a Long Beach benefit concert, with Felder and Glenn Frey insulting each other between songs.
Once the band left the stage, Felder sped away in his car, leaving the rest of the band hurt and dumbfounded. The Eagles' songs may serve as a ray of sunshine for rock fans, but after years of pent-up aggression, that sun had finally set.
