10 Worst Debut Albums By Amazing Rock Artists

7. Metal Magic - Pantera

Dimebag Darrell and Vince Abbott were only teenagers when Pantera released their first studio album, so some leeway has to be given to them. Even so, this record was not their finest work.

Inspired by the brothers' love of glam, Metal Magic has more in common with Kiss or Van Halen than anything Pantera would produce in later years.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and that's exactly what this record is; a poor man's version of the biggest hair metal bands of the day with none of the originality and none of the studio magic. It sounds like a bunch of demos that Twisted Sister listened to and went "Nah, you're alright".

Vinnie Paul does not look back kindly on this release.

“Everybody makes mistakes when they’re young and stupid and nobody knows about them," he once said told Loudwire. "Except all these people know how we started when we were teenagers.”

Still, even at 16 years old, Dimebag stands out as a ferocious guitar player. Also, it's not like the songs are stomach-churningly offensive, they're just a bit bland and certainly not what you'd expect from the masters of groove metal.
