10 Worst Final Albums In Rock
7. Second Coming - The Stone Roses
At the start of the '90s, The Stone Roses marked the beginnings of what became known as Britpop. With the release of their debut record, you could tell that these guys had the potential to be massive, whether it was the opening clangor of I Wanna Be Adored or the hookiness behind songs like Waterfall and She Bangs the Drums. As audience anticipation rose, we waited...and waited...and waited for the magic that was never going to come.
That's not even to say that Second Coming is an absolute trainwreck of a record though. Across its runtime, you can hear the building blocks of great Stone Roses songs, but you can also hear the time that went into this. Seeing how massive their debut became, you can tell that these guys wanted to go the extra mile to make the followup sound even better, with songs that sound like they were labored over for ages.
Though we did get some great tunes like Love Spreads out of the deal, living up to everyone's expectations led to the band imploding once the record was finally released. Outside of a few compilation albums and a stray single here and there, Second Coming will probably remain the last artistic gasp to come from one of the founders of Britpop.
