10 Worst Final Albums In Rock

5. Squeeze - The Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground has remained one of the most popular cult bands for years now. Ever since arriving on the New York club scene in the late '60s, the amazing work across albums like Loaded and White Light/ White Heat became the blueprint of what would become punk, art rock, and even avant garde music later down the line. On the other hand, the worst kind of VU ended up coming to the forefront on Squeeze.

All things considered, it seems wrong even calling this a Velvet Underground album in full, with half of the band not even showing up. Without the experimentation of both John Cale and Lou Reed, most of this album is carried on the strength of Doug Yule's songwriting. Though Yule had done a decent enough job on the band's self-titled third outing, his songwriting chops don't even come close to that of Reed's, with tracks that sound like they were thrown together in a matter of hours.

Even with help from Deep Purple's Ian Paice behind the drumkit, these songs just sound like scraps of what one of rock's most dangerous bands used to sound like, which says a lot considering that these guys weren't necessarily Queen in terms of song construction at the best of times. While the Velvets have pretty much achieved legendary status, this is the one record that deserves to stay underground.
