10 Worst Hard Rock Cover Songs Of All Time
5. Sun Arise - Alice Cooper
At the start of the '70s, rock didn't get any more heinous than Alice Cooper. From the dark magic that he talked about in his lyrics to the terrifying live shows he put on for rabid teenagers, many parents saw Cooper as the end of civilization as we knew it. Cooper's act may have been just good fun at the end of the day, but no one was asking Cooper to meet his detractors half way, were they?
Across the album Love it to Death, Cooper makes himself out to be a force to be reckoned with, only to drop the ball at the last second on Sun Arise. Originally a children's song by Rolf Harris, this is one of the biggest fumbles in Cooper's history, and that includes his disco material. It may have been considered symbolic Cooper would have a song about the sun coming up after an album all about darkness, but his gutter punk delivery just sounds like a vagrant screaming this at you in the middle of the street.
Whenever you're trying to pull off a persona, the biggest crime you can commit is being unconvincing, and Sun Arise might be one of the most drastic character breaks in the world of rock. Alice may have always been theatrical, but no one was asking him to pull from real life theater just yet.
