10 Worst Hard Rock Lyrics Of The 1970s
1. Love Gun - KISS
Worst Offender: "No place for hiding baby no place to run, you pulled the trigger on my love gun."
Let's get one thing right off the bat: KISS is not meant to be the most thoughtful band in the world. Even when the band tried to be serious on albums like Music From the Elder, the horrible reception only confirmed that they were best at rocking out and nothing more. Love Gun stands as one of the greatest moments during the band's run in the '70s, but the title track does get a little too dumb for its own good.
Looking to have a more visceral sex jam, the entire song is built almost like a Zeppelin tune, with a marching beat that gives way to long guitar chords. From a musical standpoint, this has got to be one of the greatest tunes the band has ever put out, but the lyrics from Paul Stanley could have used a bit more polish. The song is pretty good at conveying sleaze rock with Stanley's allusions to being a gambler for his lover's affection, but everything comes crumbling down with the lyrics "you pulled the trigger on my love gun."
Given the amount of weight that's on this one line, it's almost laughable when you hear the hamfisted metaphor it's actually making. Stanley often tells the story of writing this song in one sitting, and with lyrics like this, I'm inclined to believe that that theory is 100% true.
