10 Worst Hard Rock Lyrics Of The '90s

9. Art School Girl - Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots don't really get enough credit for proving all of their detractors wrong. Originally plagued as just another wannabe grunge band, these transplants from San Diego shocked the music world with Purple, which stood up as both a great alternative record and a decent slice of classic rock. Going even further, Tiny Music...showed them going even further into jazzier territory, but the lyrics sometimes ended up taking a dive.

Complete with a lackadaisical vocal delivery, "Art School Girl" feels like it's poorly thought out from the second it comes on. Though the backing track from the DeLeo brothers is absolutely beautiful, Scott Weiland's musings about his new girlfriend just feel like the frontman is riffing in the studio. Get this: he's got a girlfriend...and she goes to art school.

So is there a moment of redemption where everything comes together? Yes...and no. During the breakdown of the verses, the track opens up to feature the heaviest guitars on the record, but Weiland's vocals are just saying "I told you five or four times," as if we weren't completely sold on the idea that his girlfriend is artsy. While we do get a nice bit of glammy rock and roll by the end, the picturesque lyrics come a bit too late to salvage the rest of the nonsense.
