10 Worst Songs On Classic Albums
6. Tourette's - Nirvana
Looking back almost 30 years later, it's almost hard to hear the pain of Nirvana's In Utero. Written around the time that Kurt Cobain was entering the end of his life, the abrasiveness of this record is pretty much his final artistic statement before eventually committing suicide in his Seattle home. While it makes for some beautiful moments like Dumb, there are a few songs that are a bit too caustic for their own good.
Hooking up with noted indie rock producer Steve Albini, Tourette's is basically just a noise jam that Nirvana had been working on in between takes. For anyone who tries to decipher lyrics of songs, best of luck with this one, as Cobain is barely able to muster up any coherent syllables in between the random jolts of guitar laced throughout each verse. Though the guitar breaks sound really catchy, it's a bit of wasted potential when the song quickly snuffs itself out after just a minute.
Then again, the award winning single probably wasn't Cobain's intention when writing this tune. Compared to the other rockers like Scentless Apprentice and Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, this is just a morsel of spite aimed at the critics and detractors of Nirvana's success over the years. Even though All Apologies comes in afterwards to leave us on a good note, this sonic lashing out is soul-shredding coming from someone nullifying his life away.
