10. The Witch Hunt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kUGBuaDZXo Hailing from Leeds (and not to be confused with American hardcore band, Witch Hunt), The Witch Hunt describe themselves as having 'a sparkly sinister edge' - a brief yet incredibly accurate biography. Whether its Chris Mulligan's intricate, overlapping guitar tracks or singer Louisa Osborne's emotive melodies, the pair create music with such drama and dissonance that it could soundtrack the next James Bond film. 'Wide and Laughing' and 'Crawl', despite representing opposite ends of The Witch Hunt's sonic spectrum, are both songs that clearly establish what the duo do; ambient noise yielded as best as it can be into brooding, gloomy, sometimes-delicate, always-intimate slices of brilliance. Perfect for a late night, their admittedly-limited back catalogue is one that should be found on the shelves of twenty-somethings everywhere; an accompaniment to the dark and desperate times so closely associated with maturing and growing as a person. While they may be unheard of by many, the people that are clued into them value them as one of the best things going, and you absolutely should too.
