6. The Mexanines
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4ejOsm--xI The Mexanines, hailing from Bradford, are a prime example of musical talent in existence at the moment. Consisting of James Brander (Vocals & Guitar), Santino Cocchiarella (Guitar & BVs), Elliot Roper (Bass & BVs), Nicko Banks (Keys & BVs), Rory Senior (Drums) and Richie Smith (Sax, Synths & BVs), the stage as I'm sure you can imagine gets quite busy. They've got a small (which is disproportionate to their high talent levels) yet loyal following and they've supported the likes of The Pigeon Detectives. 'Fires' showcases their careful, controlled musical prowess, as well as some beautiful lyrics:
I'm a lost soul To this bottled smoke, I bend Too many smiles in the black room Too many friends
A personal favourite is 'One Of These Days' which has a belting chorus, sexy vocals, a catchy melody and top quality production that makes me think they ought to be a lot bigger than they actually are. Their music is evocative of some of the greatest musical geniuses from the last fifty years including The Rolling Stones and Blondie.
