12 Best Closing Songs On Hard Rock Albums

10. Home Tonight - Aerosmith

Throughout the 70's, Aerosmith cultivated a sound that always had a strong backbone of rhythm. Across any of their classic hits, you'll typically find songs that have brutal riffs with a funk soul, as if the band are trying to build the ultimate rock tune through the filter of Kool and the Gang. At the same time, an artist is only as good as their slowburners, and Aerosmith have one for the ages at the end of their album Rocks.

After years of being hauled from town to town, "Home Tonight" feels like a return to the familiar as it decompresses the listener from the fast riffs that we had gotten used to over the course of the record. With a soft piano anchoring everything, the song has a snails pace but never feels like its dragging too much thanks to the emotional weight Steven Tyler puts into his vocal performance.

Rather than be a musical victory lap from the previous tracks, this song feels like a train finally pulling into a station as our journey comes to an end. Even if Aerosmith is usually more uptempo than this, "Home Tonight" is where their ballads became short odysseys rather than just a sonic cooldown from the stomper tracks.
