12 Best Female Rock Singers Of All Time
2. Joan Jett
As the punk rock explosion sent the rock genre reeling in the late 70's, it wasn't as inclusive at its inception.
Sure, these guys were railing against the posh rock star lifestyle, but the landscape still seemed to be dominated by a bunch of 20 something dudes with guitars. Once the Runaways broke on the scene though, the world got their first taste of the Punk Rock Queen.
With songs that hit like a sledgehammer, Joan Jett broke onto the scene with the Runaways and quickly became one of the most exciting bands on the scene. Even when the band went their separate ways, Jett refused to be kept down, as she blossomed out into a solo career for the ages.
Whereas the Ramones had the more zany pop infused punk tunes, Jett was right alongside them with an endless amount of musical hooks along with mountains of attitude spitting from her lyrics.
While some of the best punk bands have fallen into obscurity over time, people still listen to tracks like "I Love Rock n Roll" and "Bad Reputation" for a damn good reason. She may not have been the first girl to pick up a guitar, but Joan Jett's natural charisma made the ideal image of what a badass rocker was supposed to look like, male or female.
