12 Best Female Rock Singers Of All Time

8. Ann Wilson - Heart

At the start of the 70's, the stigma against female rockers was still very strong. Even though there were some females doing well in the rock scene, the asinine consensus was that girls weren't able to rock. Then Heart came storming out of the Pacific Northwest and made everyone shut the hell up.

Instead of the more wild female figures from rock's past, Ann Wilson stepped up to the mic and blew the audience away through sheer power. With the dynamic range and raw emotion in her voice, the band had the female equivalent of Robert Plant at their disposal. While the Zeppelin influence was certainly there, this band was about something much greater than blues rock.

The crunch behind songs like "Magic Man" and "Barracuda" showed that Wilson was able to take on a hard rock tune just as easily as she could a blues jam. Some people might rag on the band for their more pop-centric direction in the 80's, but even at their more cheesy moments, Ann's voice never failed to light up the room whenever it came on. Creating the perfect blend of rock and roll swagger and melodic structure, you better believe many young females were taking notes on how to dominate the rock landscape thanks to Ann Wilson.
