12 Best Hamilton Songs
4. My Shot
Perhaps the musical's signature song, if Alexander Hamilton established Hamilton's backstory, then My Shot establishes his personality.
Straight off the back of Aaron Burr, Sir, we continue to learn more about Hamilton's new friends, Lafayette, Hercules Mulligan and John Laurens, their dreams and personalities, as well as Burr's objection to getting involved.
But mainly, My Shot is an explosive look into the brilliant mind of Hamilton, where Lin Manuel Miranda gives arguably his best performance of the whole musical. He belts out all of Hamilton's ambitions and shows off his intellect.
Every line is pure perfection. The notion of not throwing your shot away, being: "Young, scrappy and hungry", and tragically: "I imagine death so much it feels like a memory."
It's so intricate and full of detail, that you could listen to it a hundred times and discover something new every time. Trust me I have.
It may be the third song in the soundtrack, but this is where Hamilton really gets going.
It took Miranda a whole year to write My Shot. Time well spent.
What more is there left to say. This song is awesome. Wow.
