12 Best Hamilton Songs

3. Wait For It

Miranda has said that the best two songs he has ever written are The Room Where It Happens and Wait For It, both of which just so happen to be sung primarily by Aaron Burr.

Despite being the musical's narrator, Burr rarely takes the spotlight prior to Wait For It, remaining patient in the background for his time to shine. And when he does, it's simply glorious.

Burr laments how Hamilton has rushed in and achieved so much so quickly, but stands firm that he will get what he wants, if he waits for it.

This song, better than any other, encapsulates the rivalry and differing philosophies of Hamilton and Burr. Knowing where the story ends makes this song even more emotional and tragic.

While it may not be as uplifting as other Hamilton songs, it's one of the catchiest with so many great lines and a little humour here and there:

"Theodosia writes me a letter every day, I'm keeping the bed warm while her husband is away."

On stage it's even better to watch, with Leslie Odom Jr.'s outstanding performance being probably the best of the Original Broadway cast. The ensemble sit on chairs and barely move, contrasting to the energetic set pieces and choreography of Hamilton and co.'s songs.

And of course I have to mention one of the best lines in the entire musical:

"Life doesn't discrimante, Between the sinners and saints, It takes and it takes and it takes."
