12 Best Hard Rock Deep Cuts

11. Weenie Beenie - Foo Fighters

When Dave Grohl ducked into Robert Lang Studios in the mid-90's, he was still hurting from the dissolution of Nirvana and the death of Kurt Cobain. As catharsis for himself, Grohl decided to create an album full of his favorite songs he had written up to that point. The tonal styles of these songs varied from punk to hard rock to even Beatlesque pop. Towards the middle of the record, we find what may be the heaviest song the Foos had ever put out.

Played in a dropped tuning, "Weenie Beenie" is incredibly caustic as it assaults the listener with its heavy riffs and Grohl providing near-indiscernible screams as he attacks the microphone. The production of the song is so abrasive that it almost muddies the tune, but that works in the track's favor because of its metallic format.

After the band's initial tour to support the record, Grohl still pulls out "Weenie Beenie" from time to time to absolutely obliterate each audience the band is playing to. When Grohl was still figuring out the sound of his new project, this song is an intriguing look into the heavier side of what the Foos' sound could have been.
