12 Best Hard Rock Deep Cuts
10. Easier To Run - Linkin Park
With the release of Linkin Park's sophomore record, Meteora became one of the most important hard rock albums of the 2000's. Not only was the writing even better than on their debut Hybrid Theory, but the hookiness of the tracks led to nearly half the record charting on Billboard. For as much praise is put on this record, "Easier to Run" is one of the underrated highlights that is wrongly forgotten.
Opening with the faint harmonics of guitar, the song is a dark look into the psyche of an adolescent who finds it best to mask his feelings of pain rather than confront them. The melodic structure of the tune and Chester Bennington's vocal make the record have an unusual melancholy when compared to the band's other tracks.
This song did see a revival of sorts when its base track was interpolated when the band released their collaboration with Jay-Z on Collision Course, but the initial impact of the original cannot be denied after all these years. Since Bennington took his own life in 2017, the feelings of alienation and pain that he sings about in this song are not only tortured but also soul shredding with how prophetic the message became.
