12 Best Screamo Metal Bands Of All Time
5. Architects
Architects story is not an easy read. The Brighton based bruisers have come against one of the biggest challenges any band could face, the death of a founding member. After forming the band in 2004, Tom and Dan Searle took influence from technical metal bands such as Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge. It was only after the addition of current vocalist Sam Carter and bassist Ali Dean that the band found their signature style.
2009 saw the groups first major label release, 'Hollow Crown'. The single 'Follow The Water' took the scene by storm and remains a fan favourite to this very day. 'The Here and Now' brought a new sound to the group, providing a much more melodic and mainstream vibe compared to previous efforts. Sadly, the move didn't sit very well with fans. The band have since distanced themselves from this record, becoming bored with the lack of technicality they were used to.
Architects returned to form with the spectacular 'Daybreaker'. Retaining some of the catchier aspects of the previous record, the record brought back the intense and complicated sound fans were used to. Since then, the group have went from strength to strength with the release of 'Lost Together // Lost Forever' and 'All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us'.
Tragedy struck after the release of the latter album. Guitarist, brother and main songwriter for the band Tom Searle passed away in 2016, after a three year battle with skin cancer. Following months of consideration, the remaining members made the tough decision to continue, enlisting long time friend and Sylosis frontman Josh Middleton to step in. The group have since dedicated their entire career to Tom and continue to spread his message with the world.
