12 Great Heavy Metal Deep Cuts
5. Pantera - Death Trap
Phil Anselmo's debut with the legendary metal band didn't pan out too great. Thankfully the group ditched the hair metal sound quickly after, becoming the iconic riff lords they're remembered as today. These days, you would be hard pushed to find a Pantera fan who recognises 1988's 'Power Metal', but fans should definitely revist the effort.
Back when Dimebag was still going by 'Diamond Darrell, he was still pushing out some of the best riffs in the genre. Some of his best work can be found on 'Death Trap'. The main riff is a thrashy onslaught of distorted guitars and power chords that give you no choice other than to headbang yourself into a vortex.
The fast paced track is littered with Dimebag's signature flair and the solo is out of this world. Put aside the sketchy high pitched singing of Anselmo and you have all the hallmarks of a classic Pantera song.
