12 Greatest Duos In Hard Rock
4. Ozzy Osbourne/Randy Rhoads - Ozzy Osbourne
At the start of the '80s, Ozzy Osbourne really had his work cut out for him. Not only was he booted from his band Black Sabbath, but his dependency on drugs and alcohol made him look like a sad casualty of the music industry. Osbourne could have easily bowed out of the rock star lifestyle, but it took one kid from California to pull him out of his stupor.
The minute Randy Rhoads joined the Prince of Darkness on Blizzard of Ozz, you knew that Osbourne was a completely different beast. As opposed to being the dark intoner of Tony Iommi's riffs, Osbourne sounded rejuvenated by this new comrade he had, who was able to fill his songs with some of the fastest solo runs in the metal world. As opposed to coming from the blues tradition, Rhoads' interest in classical music led to some phenomenal solos like "Crazy Train," some of which even gave guitar god Eddie Van Halen a run for his money.
Ozzy could have made even more metal magic with Rhoads, but everything came to a tragic end when the guitar hero was killed in a plane crash while on tour with the band. Osbourne has been able to move on since the loss of Rhoads, but there's a good chance we'll never see that kind of metallic perfection again.
