12 Greatest Duos In Hard Rock
3. Slash/Axl Rose - Guns N Roses
For as many people that lament the death of hair metal to the grunge bands of the '90s, it's not like the pretty boys didn't see it coming. While starting off with promise, the entire hair metal movement imploded in on itself due to the artificiality of everyone from Warrant to Winger. It's pretty easy to blame bands like Nirvana for the downfall of hair metal, but the real death knell came from the most badass band that LA had ever produced.
Coming from the more seedy side of California, Guns N Roses launched onto the scene ready to kill, with two of the most natural rock stars in existence. From the moment Axl Rose first opened his mouth, his fast delivery and street punk timbre made you believe every dirty word that came out of his mouth. Even though Slash may have been silent to his left, his way of communicating his emotions on guitar took the band to a whole new level.
Rose may have clearly been the frontman, but with the natural charisma of Slash's playing, it was almost like the band had two separate frontmen commanding the stage. Stomping out every other phony hair metal band in their path, Slash and Axl Rose led Guns N Roses not only to the top of the hard rock heap, but also carried them over into the next generation.
