12 Greatest Ever Hard Rock Solo Artists
9. Sammy Hagar
Sammy Hagar is one of the true freaks of nature in the world of hard rock. Ever since his beginnings in Montrose, the man has not lost a shred of power in his delivery and has even been able to strengthen it over time. While he may have more notable band gigs, Hagar's work solo still boasts some phenomenal rock tunes.
Shortly after his departure from Montrose, Hagar started to adopt the "Red Rocker" look that we all know him for today. Some of the records can be a tad uneven, but songs like "There's Only One Way To Rock" and "I Can't Drive 55" were some of the defining rock tunes of the early 80's. I mean, you know your solo act is going pretty good when Van Halen tap you to fill in for David Lee Roth.
Even when in Van Halen, Hagar's prolific songwriting skills led him to make another solo record at the same time as VH's 5150, with Eddie Van Halen supporting him on bass. In his prime, even one of his throwaways called "I've Done Everything For You" became a massive hit for Rick Springfield. As he continues to juggle his solo work with groups like The Circle and Chickenfoot today, it seems that there's still no slowing Sammy down.
