12 Greatest Ever Hard Rock Solo Artists
8. Jack White
In terms of hard rock music, nothing really new was going on at the start of the 2000's. While we still had nu metal to an extent, some of the watered down sounds coming from the genre left most hard rock fans underwhelmed. Things looked grim, but the White Stripes came out of nowhere and injected some heart back into hard rock.
The power radiating off of Jack White was evident from the first time you heard his snide voice and manic guitar come rolling in. Even when the Stripes disbanded towards the end of the decade, you could tell that White was just getting started.
Across his solo discography, Jack's songwriting has gotten a lot better while his actual production has gotten more streamlined. As opposed to the abrasive sounds of his early career, White has taken elements of art rock and electronic music to build on the hard rock and blues that he loves already. In addition to the production, the actual guitar sound and playing on these records takes you back to the good old days of Icky Thump. The White Stripes may looked like a flash-in-the-pan group in the beginning, but Jack White has turned his first blues outings into one of the most respected careers in rock music today.
