12 Hard Rock Bands That Quit In Their Prime
1. Tool
Tool truly was metal's favorite band at the turn of the century. No matter what kind of metal music you were into, chances are these guys had you covered, with crushing riffs and some of the greatest drum performances that the genre had to offer. For as universal as their praise was, the complexity of their material was unprecedented for the time.
On albums like Lateralus and 10,000 Days, the band were toying with their style to create a psychedelic mix of sounds that pushed the entire genre forward. However, the band would pull the plug right when they were about to get started. Unlike most band's endings, Tool never made any formal announcement of their departure but instead just stopped working. For many fans chomping at the bit for new material, it became more and more of a meme that another album from these guys was never going to surface.
As time went on though, the band eventually came back together and delivered a scorcher of a record last year with Fear Inoculum. Though we may have gotten a true return to form, the amount of time metalheads had to watch their favorite band on life support was almost torturous.
